Let’s all agree: There was no more significant news event this week than the launch of the latest iPhone. All other news stories seemed hollow and meaningless when compared to the earth-shattering significance of a new telephone with a new special little adapter.

In fact, the ability of a shiny new piece of consumer electronics to add much-needed pep to an otherwise slug-slow news week got us to thinking: what if Apple had been around to add excitement to other famously dull weeks in journalism? If the iPhone 5 had been launched the week when, say, Neil Armstrong walked on the moon or the Wright Brothers first flew?
