Yesterday Hamilton Nolan wrote at Gawker that “Journalism Is Not Narcissism.” Maybe not, but according to ex-GOOD Magazine Executive Editor Ann Friedman, “Journalism is Personal.” In a thought-provoking post, Friedman says it’s no cardinal sin to insert yourself into a story, writing, “I cringe every time I read a New York Times story in which the reporter awkwardly refers to herself as a ‘visitor,'” adding at the end, “No one’s ponying up $19.99 a year to finance the career of ‘a visitor.'” [Ann Friedman]
