Following the Syrian Government’s shocking shutdown of the country’s Internet access yesterday, hacker group Anonymous has declared digital war on the regime. The group promised to “remove from the Internet all web assets belonging to the Assad regime that are NOT hosted in Syria,” beginning at 9:00 PM EST Thursday. At this time, their first target, the Syrian Embassy of in China, is still live. The group also claims to have previously distributed “Syrian Care Packages” to activists in the country in anticipation of such an event, leading them to proclaim that “there are emergency independent media centers already set up in every city of Syria.” [Source Salon]
