Apple is set to pass Intel as the world’s largest processor manufacturer, according to a study set to be released next week by In-Stat. The company is already the second largest processor company in the world, and will likely pass Intel this year as tablet and smartphone shipments continue to grow. In addition, it is possible that Apple could drop Intel chips for its MacBook Air line and transition to Apple-designed ARM chips. That would not only hurt Intel, but also provide a big boost to Apple.
