Even before its launch on Android today, Instagram has been positioned as a contenter, alongside Pinterest and Tumblr, to join the top tier of social media — Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. The funny thing is, it’s not much of a media company. While the others are bending over backward to accomodate brands and plan for monetization, Instagram has done next to nothing to help brands use its platform to reach 30 million users.
