The Canadian universities of Western Ontario and Toronto have entered into an agreement with the copyright-enforcing collective Access Copyright. Normally, this wouldn’t make headlines. However, as part of the deal, the universities had to acknowledge that just linking to a site is the digital equivalent of photocopying a piece of paper. Yes, you’ve read that right. No, this isn’t an Onion article or April Fools. Yeah, they’ve lost their mind.
