Speek, a new conference call tool started by the former founders of Evite.com and Jaxara, has raised $1.2 million in seed funding, led by several undisclosed early stage venture funds. Instead of phone numbers and PINs, Speek distributes unique URLs (eg, speek.com/YourName) to users, who can then join a call from their phone, the Web, mobile, or via SMS. Speek launched its beta in June and recently won first place at Washington DC’s Distilled Intelligence pitch competition. Speek is based in AOL’s Fishbowl Labs in Dulles, Virginia. [Source: Speek]
