Tom Scocca at Slate outlines the various ways that Word is broken, likening it to writing on a typewriter and sending a copy via fax back when computers began to take the world by storm. In a world that’s based on publishing documents to the Web or moving them across different platforms, Word’s page-based, proprietary system is more of a hindrance than a boon. I’ve certainly felt Scocca’s pain, and I’ve done my best to avoid Word (or its Mac counterpart, Pages) as soon as I started publishing to the web.
