News out of New Hampshire suggests that Colorado’s alcohol-promoting, marijuana-berating governor may have started a national trend. In the same week that saw Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-Co.) slam marijuana as unsafe and then host a party celebrating the alcohol industry, the Washington Post’s Radley Balko reports that New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan (D) promised to veto legislation legalizing cannabis right after promoting sales of a new state-approved and state-branded vodka. In her veto threat, Hassan channeled Hickenlooper’s safety message, saying marijuana “sends the wrong message” to kids. But, similar to Hickenlooper, she said nothing of the sort when pushing sales of the far-more-dangerous alcohol. – Sirota
