Public Radio Exchange’s PRX Labs believes that an audio streaming glitch is causing iPhones on iOS 6 to use excess data. The group saw an unusual spike in traffic around one of its podcasts which it investigated and found that “Apple’s Audio Playback frameworks are causing iOS devices to download audio files multiple times while a user is streaming.” In one case cited, the playback of a 30MB episode resulted in more than 100MB of data transfers. The glitch was reportedly fixed in the update iOS 6.0.1, but PRX Labs’ data seems to suggest otherwise.
