[Update: These reports have been denied by the Iranian government] The Iranian government has decided to suspend service to the World Wide Web in favor of an internal version of the internet. The Intranet will be “cleansed” of anything that the Iranian government deems offensive, which will coincidentally include anything that speaks out against the Iranian government. Iranians will now no longer be able to use Gmail or Google, and will instead be forced to use Iran Mail and Iran Search Engine. Catchy names, to be sure, but not exactly great for the citizens of Iran. The change will be in full force by August.
