In a move to further increase pressure on NBC-Comcast to stop trying to ignore results of unionization elections in its workplace, Writers Guild East leaders and Peacock Production workers today delivered petitions with 10,000 signatures asking MSNBC’s hosts to publicly support their effort. Those hosts have built their brand names on outspoken support for workers and union rights, yet they have not used their considerable public platforms and leverage with management to support the union drive in their own workplace. Indeed, as Pando previously reported, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz – who has most tied his name to worker rights’ movements – has actually lashed out at supporters of the union drive, publicly insisting their cause is one of “income envy.” The battle with NBC-Comcast epitomizes the obstacles in other labor struggles throughout the information economy.
