500 Startups has announced its newest class of startups and the fairer sex is refreshingly well represented. Of the 27 new companies, nine have at least one female founder and there are a total of 15 female founders within the class. This is a rarity in the startup world, but it is a point of diversity that the Dave McClure led incubator is consciously working to address. McClure will be the first to say that his motivations aren’t altruistic. He is a firm believer that these women-led companies will compete with and in many cases surpass their male-dominated competition. The class will wrap up with a demo days in both Mountain View, CA and New York City at the end of July. [Source Women 2.0]
