More than a year after acquiring Motorola Mobility and its portfolio of patents for $12.5 billion, the unit’s operations are dragging down Google’s financial results. Motorola’s $527 million quarterly loss reported today was a big part of the reason why Google missed its Q3 mark so badly and the company’s shares fell 9 percent before NASDAQ halted trading.
