In an op-ed today, Mashable’s Sam Laird wonders if election prognosticator Nate Silver’s wizard magic has run dry. After all, his Super Bowl predictions made on January 10 were completely off. So why should we believe him when he says the San Francisco 49ers are the odds-on favorite to defeat the Baltimore Ravens? Laird writes, “This is what confused many conservatives who blasted Silver for bias during election season; while his predictions favored President Obama, they still gave Mitt Romney a varying change of winning and never said he wouldn’t be elected. There’s just a much higher margin for error, even for someone like Silver, in predicting NFL football than predicting presidential elections.” So there, we can all rest easy knowing that Silver is not a witch anymore.
