Amid concerns that the New York City marathon was not a worthwhile use of resources in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and marathon organizers have canceled the race. This was a contentious subject all week with local residents insisting the event be canceled and critical resources be directed toward the recovery effort.
