Forbes has an interesting piece of conjecture on their site today: that News Corp. would be more valuable if they spun off their various newspapers into a separate entity, than if they kept them as part of the larger company. This would mean that the company would lose divisions like Dow Jones, and would instead be able to focus on more profitable areas of the company like Fox. The problem with this is that while paper newspapers are less profitable, the demand for text-based news is just as strong as ever. A more suitable idea would be to shut down the printing of the newspapers, save money, and move the transition forward. Not for a few years, though.
