As prescription drug theft has become a major problem, the NYPD is looking for solutions and has devised an initiative called “Operation Safety Cap.” Under this project, the agency will be equipping “dummy bottles” at pharmacies with GPS tracking software. By implementing this technology, police agencies would be able to keep tabs on the bottle and thieves. “In the event of a robbery or theft, we’ll be able to track the bottle, which may lead us to stash locations across the city,” Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said in an advanced copy of his speech he plans on delivering this Friday in California. Besides providing bait bottles, the NYPD will speak with pharmacies about increasing security, along with talking to children about abusing prescription drugs. [Source: NY Daily News]
