After Philadelphia Parking Authority discovered some of SideCar’s drivers were not licensed, the Pennsylvania transportation agency shut the start up down. The CEO of SideCar Sunil Paul acknowledged the incident in a blog post stating, “three everyday drivers in our community were given hefty citations and had their cars impounded, leaving them alone in the dark and cold in need of a ride home.” The ridesharing app has only been in the Philadelphia area for two weeks.
