Point-of-sale apps are the new location apps, gaining quite a bit of attention from the tech press over the last few days. While most of that attention has gone to Square’s new iPad-centric Register application, competitor Own has added support for Facebook, Foursquare, and Twitter in the latest version of its software. The software is still in beta with 65 trial users and has processed $2 million since its beta launch in October of 2011. Baking support for these social accounts into its software is a step to allow businesses to “see the people behind the numbers” according to CEO Verdi Erul.
