Proving effectiveness of native ad campaign, Providence Journal omits reference to anti-pension billionaire when touting study he funded
As if deliberately proving how anti-pension billionaire John Arnold’s deceptive native advertising campaign operates, Rhode Island’s largest newspaper omitted any reference to him when touting the Brookings Institution study on pensions that he funded. As Pando reported earlier today, that study touted Rhode Island State Treasurer Gina Raimondo’s (D) massive pension cuts but didn’t mention that the study’s own funder, Arnold, is also one of Raimondo’s largest financial benefactors. Consequently, the Providence Journal reported on the study and also omitted reference to both Arnold’s role in the study and his financing of Raimondo’s political career. One Providence Journal reporter said that Arnold’s role in the study simply “didn’t jump out at reporter who wrote” the newspaper’s story.
