Skype is picking a fight with Twitter and Facebook in a marketing campaign that is aimed at getting people to communicate over Skype instead of over competing services. With tag lines like “140 characters doesn’t equal staying in touch”, “When did it become okay to text mum Happy Birthday?” and “Your one-way ticket back to humanity”, it seems like Skype isn’t pulling any punches. What is interesting about this is that Microsoft owns Skype and is a major investor in Facebook, as well as a strategic partner. As are Skype and Facebook.
