According to new predictions from BIA/ Kelsey, spending on social media ads is supposed to reach nearly $10 billion in 2012, up from just over $3 billion last year. The category will ne doubt be buoyed by the IPO of Facebook, which many in the industry see as a rising tide for all social media. The only bummer is that the figure mostly only describes display ads on social media sites because there is not yet an easy way to categorize the dollars spent on branded content and Facebook more sophisticated ad products.
