The Supreme Court has decided that it will not overrule an appellate court’s decision to uphold a $675,000 fine for copyright infringement. The original case stemmed from a user downloading songs illegally over Kazaa, and has been ongoing for years. The case has had many twists and turns, with a jury award the damages, a judge reducing them, and the appellate court reinstating them. The Supreme Court apparently agrees with the Obama administration in saying that the fine is not “unconstitutionally excessive”. Right.
