Symantec’s senior VP of information security told the Wall Street Journal today that “antivirus is dead” and that Symantec is shifting away from its traditional antivirus products, though it will continue to enhance the Norton suite of products. “We don’t think of antivirus as a moneymaker in any way,” he said. Symantec will focus on a “detect and respond” model that has propelled the success competitors like FireEye.
