When Microsoft announced that it was acquiring Skype last year, everyone claimed that it would be the end of Skype as an independent company and that people should start looking for new VoIP services ASAP. Turns out that was partially right (Skype really is horrible on OS X), but Skype has managed to stay independent inside of Microsoft. According to an article in the Times, the biggest challenge ahead is whether or not Microsoft can fully integrate Skype, while keeping it independent.
