Three and a half years ago, Jonathan McIntosh posted a cleverly-conceived, brilliantly-executed video remix pitting one of pop culture’s most iconic vampires (Twilight’s Edward Cullen) against one of pop culture’s most iconic vampire slayers (Buffy Summers). In addition to having been viewed over 3 million times and covered by Vanity Fair and the LA Times, it was even singled out by the US Copyright Office as an example of “transformative noncommercial video work” and thus exempt from the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. But that hasn’t stopped Lionsgate Entertainment, which owns the rights to the Twilight films, from successfully petitioning YouTube to have the video removed.
