If Ma Bell thought that they had it bad with one little $850 payment, their heads are about to roll. The US government is suing the company for fraudulent billing practices. The charges state that AT&T was ordered to require people that sign up for IP Relay calls, used by people with hearing disabilities to contact people without them. Yes, that sentence is incredibly broken. In short: AT&T was ordered to make sure the people that sign up for IP Relay actually live in the US, because the IRS reimburses AT&T for the costs per person. AT&T didn’t, and now the government is suing.
