This Ticker post nearly ended up as one long, nautical metaphor, something about VeriFone daring to make the voyage into mobile payments, targeting Square and PayPal here with a new, clunky card reader and payments platform. Instead of taking that route, I’m just going to point out that none of Square’s competitors have nailed simplicity or an enjoyable aesthetic and then wonder at how crowded these seas this market is getting.
