Walmart has acquired the Facebook app Social Calendar, a service that allows its users to remember holidays and birthdays by sending an email or text message and facilitates sharing with personalized ecards. According to Walmart Social Calendar will continue to operate, and the company says that its users will be informed if that is to change in the near future. How Walmart plans to use the service is uncertain, but I imagine that having millions of customers telling you about their friends’ birthdays could result in some opportunities for gift shopping.
