Today the White House announced a new API based on the popular petition service that lets people engage with the Obama Administration if they get enough signatures. (Greatest hits include a petition to build a death star, and one to deport Piers Morgan.) The API will be released in different phases in the coming months, letting developers do things like collect and submit signatures without directly sending the user to the White House website. To prepare developers, the White House will hold the Open Data Day Hackathon on February 22.
