Mikko Hypponen, an executive at antivirus firm F-Secure, has posted an article on Wired detailing why his company wasn’t able to detect viruses that had been spreading for years in Iran. Apparently, F-Secure and other firms had evidence that the malware existed, but didn’t detect it as malware. This was a spectacular failure for an industry which has the sole purpose of detecting malware and viruses quickly, not years late. Hypponen explains it all at the source.
