Google, the self-appointed paragon of “open,” may be backing off from its promise of releasing a fiber optic network that other providers could build upon. The company is planning on releasing its network in Kansas City this summer, and had previously promised to allow other providers to use the network to offer their own services. It would appear that the company has changed its mind, as all mention of the network acting as a foundation for other providers has been removed.
