Russian search giant Yandex is taking on Google by launching an alternative Android app store. Yandex.Store, which debuted today at Mobile World Congress, has 50,000 apps at launch, including popular titles, Skype, Foursquare and Cut the Rope. The total is a far cry from Google’s roughly three quarters of a million. Notably the Yandex.Store is already available in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Russian, with more languages coming. Carriers and manufacturers can license and deploy the Yandex.Store for free, with the company only profiting through a cut of app sales. The Russian challenger also introduced a new Android 3D interface dubbed Yandex.Shell. [Source: TheNextWeb]
