Pando Email Plug-ins FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Which Web email programs do you support?
The Pando Email Plug-in works with Gmail, Hotmail, AOL Mail (the Web-based version) and Yahoo! Mail (the current production version, not the new beta, yet).

Which browsers do you support?

Can I use it on a Mac?
To use the Pando Email Plug-in, you need to access your Web email through Internet Explorer 6 or 7 for Windows. Sorry, no Mac version yet.

Will the plug-in change how my Web email operates?
For the most part, no. You won’t notice anything different until you try to send an attachment that’s bigger than the size limit you set (read How to set the size limit). The plug-in just adds the ability to send attachments as Pando Packages. And who wouldn’t want that?
When the plug-in does suggest you use Pando, you can always say no and your Web email will continue on as usual.

How do I send a Pando Package through Web email?

  1. Create a new email. Enter the recipient address(es), enter the subject, write the message. You don’t need to mention Pando; the plug-in will insert a notice for your recipient.
  2. Add your attachment as you normally would. If it is over 5 MB or the size limit you set in Pando (read How to set the size limit), a window will appear asking if you would like to “Pando the attachment.”

You always have the choice, at this point, to say no and proceed as usual.
  3. Rename the Package, if you wish, and click yes to Pando the attachment. If this is your first time sending a Package, Pando will ask for your name.
    Enter your name pop-up

Your Web email program will then show that it is attaching the file. A very small Pando Package (a .pando file) will be attached to the email instead of your file.
  4. Send the mail.

  1. Go to the Email Plugins settings window.
  2. If there is more than one email plug-in listed, click the one you want to change.
  3. At the bottom of the window, there are radio buttons for “On” and “Off.” Click Off.

  2. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel. (In Windows XP, click Start, then click Control Panel.)
  3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

I only want to send Pando Packages when the attachment is over 8 MB (or some other size limit). Can I set that?
Sure. By default, the Pando Email Plug-in will automatically suggest that you use Pando to send any attachments over 5 MB. But you can set that to any size (up to 1 GB).

  1. Go to the Plug-ins settings window (see above).
  2. If there is more than one plug-in listed, click the one you want to change.
  3. See the line at the bottom which says: “Package files when outbound email attachments exceed 5 MB.” Change the number.
  4. Click ok.

Does the person to whom I am sending files need Pando?
Yes. But we make this process lightening fast, easy and, of course, free for both you and your recipient. Using Pando, you send files and folders (a.k.a. "Pando Packages") along with a message to any email address you wish. The recipients get your email with a polite note explaining that the file was sent using Pando, and in order to receive the file, they must get Pando, too.
"Aha!" you think. "That's the rub…you're forcing me to get others to download your software!" You caught us. As that old song goes: "If spreading good software's a crime, we guess we're guilty every time…"

I have the web email Plug-in installed. When I close my web email, Pando remains active. Why is that?
Since the web email Plug-in is enabled, Pando is activated once you run your web email. Pando application will remain active even after you close your web email.
Starting from version 1.4, when you install any of the Pando email Plug-ins, Pando will boot in Plug-in mode:
This will allow Pando to be used to send large email attachments through your mailer of choice, but not require Pando to be loaded all the time as it has been in the past.
Pando in Plug-in mode will not appear in your taskbar and will only load Pando based on your Plug-ins settings under Options.
