This is the first week in a while I haven’t put on makeup and a nice dress and sat in front of cameras and a sold-out audience to interview a major industry mogul. And while the breather has been nice for me and the team, we’re ready to get back to it next week.
Our August PandoMonthly series will be slightly less insane than July, as we’re only doing two cities, but the guests are just as impressive.
Next Thursday, August 9 our guest will be legendary angel investor, LinkedIn founder, and Greylock partner Reid Hoffman.
In case you missed all of 2011, it was pretty much the year of Reid. Another Capo in the PayPal mafia, he is one of the most successful and prolific angel investors in the Valley. He was the co-founder of LinkedIn, one of the biggest tech IPOs of the last decade. He was also a personal investor in Zynga and Facebook, and his firm Greylock invested in Pandora and Groupon. Have some IPOs, why don’t you?
Reid is a generous mentor to many Valley entrepreneurs — me included. Reid is also the co-author of the best selling book, “The Startup of You”.
On August 16, we are returning to New York for our third PandoMonthly in the Big Apple. Our guest this time is Ben Lerer of Thrillist, JackThreads, and Lerer Ventures.
In some ways, this is our most New York-y event yet. Our first one was with WordPress’s Matt Mullenweg, who’d recently relocated to New York. The conversation had to do with a lot of the contrasts between the Valley and New York. Our second was with Worldwide Pants CEO Rob Burnett about the intersection of entertainment and technology.
Lerer is different from either, but in many ways a more natural guest for a series like this. He’s one of the very poster children of the New York tech scene, and Lerer Ventures has become one of the greatest champions of startups. He’s also outspoken, doesn’t mince words, and is irreverently funny. And he says he’ll have some news for us. It’s going to be a great night.
As usual, we’ll put the tickets on sale the week before the event, so mark your calendars! I expect both to be amazing additions to our growing video archive.
We want to thank our generous sponsors for the San Francisco event this month, Andreessen Horowitz. As you know, we bring you this series for the dramatically low price of $20 per ticket, which doesn’t come close to covering the costs. We appreciate the sponsors who make it possible to keep the event so accessible for struggling entrepreneurs and students, who shouldn’t have to pay $3,000 a ticket to see frank conversations with guests of this caliber. If you’d like to sponsor an upcoming PandoMonthly, please email Jeanne Logozzo at Jeanne(at)PandoDaily.com.
[Disclosure: Both Greylock and Lerer Ventures are investors in PandoDaily.]
