Announcing Pando's first "webinar": Globalizing eCommerce (one shopping cart at a time)

From The News Desk

Our PandoMonthly events are one of my favorite things we do here at Pando. Partly because I get to interview some of the biggest names in the technology industry, but mainly because they give me a chance to meet face to face some of the millions of readers who visit Pando each month. With the media industry's obsession with metrics and growth, it's easy to forget that behind every one of Pando's "unique visitors" is a real person, often with their own unique entrepreneurial story to tell.

One downside to the monthly events, however, is that -- well -- we can only do one a month. The logistic challenges of travel, venue setup and, of course, all that pizza and beer put an artificial cap on how many "taped in front of a live studio audience" events we can do. Another is that, with readers all across the globe, we know there are many of you who can't make it to San Francisco, New York, or LA.

For those reasons, I'm really excited to announce the launch of "Pando Webinars," a series of online panel discussions, hosted by me, and featuring small groups of industry leaders discussing a single topic. The events will be less about news and more about stories and struggles from the trenches. The hope is that -- just like PandoMonthlys-- our audience of people building companies all over the world take inspiration and tactical advice from them. The panels will be recorded by our video team in San Francisco and published on Pando and our YouTube channel.

Our first Webinar (and yes, we're going to come up with a less horrible word than "webinar") will be published on June 4th and covers the increasingly important subject of Global Ecommerce. Panelists include Birchbox's co-founder Katia Beauchamp and Braintree's Klas Bäck, with more names to be confirmed in the next week or two.

Our sponsor for the event is Smartling. As is always the case at Pando, advertisers have no control over the event itself, but Smartling has very generously offered to sponsor a live stream of the event on the day it's recorded (May 20th). If you'd like to watch the panel before everyone else, you can find out how to register for the live stream here. (I wouldn't be doing my job as CEO if I didn't mention here that we have a full slate of Webinars planned for the rest of the year. Contact sponsors(at) for details of sponsorship opportunities.)

Also, if you're a Pando Member, you'll be able to watch the stream live as it happens via the members' area.

This first Webinar is very much an experiment for us, but I hope they'll quickly grow into just as popular a series as PandoMonthly has. As ever, I'd love to hear your feedback on the event -- and also suggestions for topics you'd like us to cover in future.
