Dick Costolo had just one request as he entered the Pandoland green room Tuesday morning.

It wasn’t for some unique coffee beverage to sip on stage or a pre-show snack. It was this: Please ask Jason Hirschhorn about Viacom when he’s on stage later today.

Costolo had to take off before we got there, and meantime the story has continued to unfurl with Sumner Redstone saying he no longer trustsViacom’s CEO.

Hirschhorn is not only a keen watcher of the media landscape, he adored the early glory days of MTV, so much so that he sold his company to Viacom once upon a time. He had huge respect for what Tom Freston and Judy McGrath built. “I was in awe,” he said of working with them.

So, yeah, he’s biased. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a point.
