Plural, a multidisciplinary marketing company with expertise in social media strategy and content production. Plural was founded in Manhattan’s Lower East Side in 2016. Since then, this creative agency and content production studio has curated media strategies and bespoke content for influential brands, including Adobe, Karl Lagerfeld, and Angel City FC.
As Plural scaled, founder Daniel Plenge set out to give his managers and team members the opportunity to share feedback through performance reviews. In practice, that involved annual performance appraisals followed by a calibration sync.
But as the company scaled, it became clear that annual reviews were not optimal for team growth or business development. Recognizing the limitations of this current process, Plural partnered with Pando to usher in an approach that meaningfully supports its employees and overall company growth.
The gaps in Plural’s cyclical performance management process were too large to be filled with minor changes to the current approach. Annual reviews didn’t give managers the opportunity to convey expectations throughout the year or foster team growth in an impactful, tangible way. Plural needed a complete shift to the way they thought about and approached performance management for the team.
Plural’s talent business alignment, performance management, feedback processes were all solidified into a cohesive system with the implementation of Pando.
In the initial audit phase of their Pando partnership, Plural shared the existing org structure that outlined roles and responsibilities throughout the company. The Pando team encouraged Plural to hone in on each employee’s core competencies to delineate levels and career tracks. The exercise offered the opportunity to look at the company’s org structure with newfound clarity and perspective.
“The audit revealed opportunities for some team members to potentially shift focus or change their progression. As the founder, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the existing output of our team, how we could better serve each member in their growth, and how that could elevate business development. ” said Daniel.
With clear career progression processes in place, Plural established that every employee has the space to communicate their needs and achieve their goals.
A 2023 global research study from Cornerstone OnDemand, Inc. revealed that visible talent development and strong career mobility are a persistent demand from today’s workforce. By empowering employees to take ownership of their own growth through Pando, Plural took a critical step in unlocking individual potential, supporting retention, and increasing engagement.
Pando’s platform created holistic transparency for Plural that permeates the entire company. Internally, both managers and individual contributors have confidence that everyone is accurately titled and on track to expand their skills. The continuous process allowed for more agility and greater employee growth. Giving and receiving feedback became a regular practice among team members, which was not the case prior to the Pando partnership.
Key retention factors like recognition, culture, and growth opportunities have all been supported through Pando. Since implementation at the start of 2022, all team members have upskilled and several have been promoted driving greater impact to the business and increasing employee engagement overall. From a cultural perspective, there is a team-wide recognition that each employee has space and a trajectory to grow at Plural.
